Abstract:- A reversed phase ultra performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) method was developed and validated to determine plasma levels of vincristine and quercetin simultaneously. Vincristine, quercetin and apigenin (internal standard) were extracted from plasma by liquid-liquid extraction with ethyl acetate. UPLC analysis was carried out at 25 ºC with a Waters AcQuity UPLC BEH C18 2.1 x 50 mm, 1.7 μm column with the gradient elution of water/formic acid (99.9:0.1, v/v) and acetonitrile/formic acid (99.9:0.1, v/v). The flow rate was 0.5 mL/min and the injection volume was 1 μL. Vincristine and quercetin were detected at wavelengths of 297 nm and 376 nm, respectively, with elution time of 1.45 and 1.13 minutes. The calibration curves were linear from 0.156 to 50 μg/mL for vincristine (r2=0.999) and 0.075 to 6.0 μg/mL (r2=1.000) for quercetin. The coefficients of variation (CV) for the intra- and inter-day assays were below 15.5%. The lower limit of quantitation for vincristine and quercetin in plasma were 0.1 μg/mL and 0.02 μg/mL, respectively. Absolute recoveries ranged from 103.2% to 104.8% for vincristine and 96.7% to 120.0% for quercetin. Both drugs were stable for 24 h at 4ºC. This method was successfully applied to determine plasma vincristine, quercetin metabolites and quercetin levels after intravenous administration in mice.

Abstract:-The occurrence of both obesity and asthma has increased among people over the last several decades. Former data on the association between obesity and asthma has been inconsistent. This study aimed to examine the association of obesity with total IgE levels in south Indian asthma subjects. The serum IgE level was examined in 75 asthma patients and their severities of asthma were determined by pulmonary function tests. Serum IgE level was compared with the severity of asthma and Body Mass Index. Total serum IgE levels significantly increased in obese and asthma groups when compared to control subjects (p<0.005). The data indicated a significant positive correlation between IgE levels and body mass index (BMI) in asthmatic patients (mild P<0.009, moderate P<0.021 and severe asthma P<0.010). The present study suggests that the serum IgE level may reproduce the severity of bronchial asthma. The evidence for the relationship between obesity and asthma is not conclusive however the study finds a positive association between obesity and asthma among south Indian asthmatic subjects.

Abstract:- Schwannoma of head and neck region are common accounting for 25%. The thyroid gland is an infrequent and rare site for the occurrence of Schwannoma. These tumors often mimic a thyroid nodule. A case of Schwannoma of thyroid gland was diagnosed on histopathological examination.

Abstract:-In order to ascertain accumulation of heavy metals, investigations were performed by using atomic absorption spectrometry. The results showed heavy metals accumulation in plant, procured from polluted sites as compared to unpolluted sites. The main purpose of the review is to document evidence for the users, collectors, and practitioners of in marketed Herbal medicine. The clinical manifestations of metal poisoning have been well characterized and documented. Heavy metal poisoning has decreased because of improved industrial hygiene and environmental controls so that the signs and symptoms of such poisoning are likely to go unrecognized. If metal poisoning is identified, the true source may be wrongly associated with environmental occupational exposures. Hence it is necessary to toxicological parameters standardization of herbal medicine marketed in India before its marketing.

Abstract:- Two spectrophotometric methods are presented for the determination of a ternary mixture containing chlorpheniramine maleate, diclofenac sodium and paracetamol in combined dosage form without prior separation. The first method is the derivative ratio spectra zero crossing method (DRSZ) where chlorpheniramine maleate, diclofenac sodium were determined by measuring the DD1 amplitudes at 246.7nm, 290.2 nm and paracetamol was determined by measuring the DD1 , DD2 and DD3 amplitudes at 252.8nm, 246.3 nm and 254.3 nm , respectively. The second method is the double divisor ratio spectra derivative method (DDRD) where diclofenac sodium was determined by measuring the DD1 , DD2 at 311 nm and 307 nm, respectively and paracetamol was determined by measuring the DD1 , DD2 and DD3 amplitudes at 253.7nm, 247.9 nm and 253.8nm , respectively. The methods were linear over the concentration range 20-100 μgml-1 chlorpheniramine maleate, 5-40 μgml-1 diclofenac sodium and 2-18 μgml-1 paracetamol. The described methods are rapid , accurate, simple and precise and can be used for quality control of such mixture.
