Abstract:- Introduction: In this study, it was aimed to assess any limitations among housewives with rheumatoid arthritis regarding their ability to conduct their responsibilities as housewives when compared to their healthy counterparts. We also aimed to determine the parameters that ideally evaluate the disability among housewives with Rheumatoid Arthritis as relates to their ability to properly fulfill their roles. Materials and Methods: 258 housewives with Rheumatoid arthritis and 210 healthy volunteer housewives were included in the study. All subjects were queried regarding the period of time that they spent for housework, child care and individual and social activities in one week. The spent time on each activity were compared between the patient and control groups. Results: Disability in all activities with the exception of indoor child care was determined in patients compared with healthy volunteers. The parameters determined to be most correlated were found among the applied scales: The Shortened Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand Measure work module for determining disability in the conduct of housework activities and The Shortened Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand Measure for disability in child care; grip strength for disability in personal activities; and Modified-Health Assessment Questionnaire for disability in social activities. Conclusion: Housewives with Rheumatoid Arthritis were determined to have disability with respect to their social life. The measurement methods such as grip strength, The Shortened Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand Measure and work module of this and Modified-Health Assessment Questionnaire can be effective in the evaluation of disability.

Abstract :- Machado-Joseph Disease and Alzheimer’s disease both are neurodegenerative disorders. MJD or SCA3 is a movement disorder and AD patients suffer from mental illness, depression, and dementia. MJD belongs to a class of genetic disorder called triplet repeat diseases. The mutant gene possesses increased number of CAG trinucleotide repeat which produces a mutated protein called ATAXIN3 and AD and this is due to hypophosphorylated microtubule associated protein Tau. The two proteins were modeled using modeller and then checked for protein quality. Then herbal lead compounds and their analogs were identified and screened with the target protein and energy values were compared. Results indicate that more than one herbal lead compounds could serve as potent inhibitors of mutated Tau and ATAXIN.

Abstract:- Five Bacterial isolates MJU1101, MJU1102, MJU1103, MJU1104 and MJU1105 were isolated from oil contaminated soil and were screened for oil degradation potential in MSM (minimal salt media) supplemented with 5% used engine oil by studying the growth and protein profile. Out of the five three isolates MJU1101, MJU1102 and MJU1105 showed good oil degradation potential, and were identified based on Bergey’s manual. All the three isolates individually and in combination were used to remediate the oil contaminated soil, and the effect of remediation on soil fertility was checked by sowing seeds of chickpea (Cicer arietinum) in treated and non treated soil. It was seen that no germination occurred in untreated soil but chickpea germinated and grew well in soil treated with isolate MJU1101 and MJU1102. Germination was good and faster in MJU1101.

Abstract:-Rosa indica leaves, stem and flowers were screened against various pathogenic bacterial strains to study the antimicrobial properties of the plant. Methanolic and ethyl acetate extracts of plant parts were screened by agar well diffusion method against E. coli, P. aeuginosa and S. aureus, respectively. Methanolic extracts of rose petals, leaves and stem were found to have good antibacterial properties against the entire test microorganisms selected in the study, while ethyl acetate extract showed activity against P. aeruginosa only. Rose flower was found best source for antibacterial activity against the microorganisms.

Abstract :- Takayasu arteritis is a rare chronic large vessel vasculitis primarily affecting the aorta and its main branches. Pulmonary arteries involvement is well described in Takayasu's arteritis. We report the case of a 40-year old male patient with Takayasu arteritis who presented with features of right heart failure and found to have severe left pulmonary trunk stenosis resulting in pulmonary hypertension and also with focal abdominal aortitis causing narrowing of left common iliac artery and resulted in left lower limb ischemia and gangrene, which made him to undergo above knee amputation. In our case the aortic arch and main branches were spared. Though the involvement of pulmonary artery is known, the presentation of features of right heart failure was the rarity in our case.
