Abstract:- Calcium and magnesium exert a major role upon diverse physiological process. Defect in calcium homeostasis have been seen in the asthma process. Antagonism of calcium and magnesium in the asthma and the beneficial effect of magnesium therapy in asthma have also been found in many studies. Children being the major target of asthma, we studied the blood levels of ionized calcium, total calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium in 50 asthmatic children attending the pediatric OPD and compared with similar number of age and sex matched control. It was found that there was significant decrease in the levels of serum ionized calcium (1.15 ± 0.01 mmol/L), total calcium (8.93 ± 0.96mg/dl) and serum magnesium (1.91 ± 0.23 mg/dl)in asthmatic children as compare to the normal controls (1.24 ± 0.01 mmol/L), (9.35 ± 0.90 mg/dl) and (2.05 ± 0.23 mg/dl) respectively. The significant decrease was irrespective with the age, gender of patients and the severity of disease. In study group serum sodium (138 ± 3.4 mmol/L) and potassium (4.13 ± 0.46 mmol/L) showed no significant difference as compared to normal control group (139 ± 3.4 mmol/L) and (4.2 ± 0.53 mmol/L) respectively. A defect in calcium homeostasis may lead to increased utilization and translocation i.e. higher influx of calcium ions in bronchial smooth muscle cells and variety of other cells for e.g. mast cells which might have caused its lowering in plasma, ionized calcium being a physically active fraction which account for nearly half of the total calcium levels. These results suggest that airway hyper-responsiveness may be associated with altered calcium mobilization in airway smooth muscles. Utilization of magnesium for antagonism of calcium in the asthma process might have caused significant lowering in serum magnesium levels in asthmatic children as compare to normal controls.

Abstract:- Introduction: In this study, it was aimed to assess any limitations among housewives with rheumatoid arthritis regarding their ability to conduct their responsibilities as housewives when compared to their healthy counterparts. We also aimed to determine the parameters that ideally evaluate the disability among housewives with Rheumatoid Arthritis as relates to their ability to properly fulfill their roles. Materials and Methods: 258 housewives with Rheumatoid arthritis and 210 healthy volunteer housewives were included in the study. All subjects were queried regarding the period of time that they spent for housework, child care and individual and social activities in one week. The spent time on each activity were compared between the patient and control groups. Results: Disability in all activities with the exception of indoor child care was determined in patients compared with healthy volunteers. The parameters determined to be most correlated were found among the applied scales: The Shortened Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand Measure work module for determining disability in the conduct of housework activities and The Shortened Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand Measure for disability in child care; grip strength for disability in personal activities; and Modified-Health Assessment Questionnaire for disability in social activities. Conclusion: Housewives with Rheumatoid Arthritis were determined to have disability with respect to their social life. The measurement methods such as grip strength, The Shortened Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand Measure and work module of this and Modified-Health Assessment Questionnaire can be effective in the evaluation of disability.

Abstract:- Glioblastoma multiforme is an aggressive disabling and deadly disease of the central nervous system. Early detection and treatment improve the prognosis for adults with glioblastoma. Advance practice nurses can help identify patients with glioblastoma multiforme early in the disease process and provide these patients with comprehensive nursing care.In this article we discuss the clinical presentation, diagnosis, postoperative care, treatment, symptom management, health promotion and physicochemical care for patients with glioblastoma multiforme.

Abstract:- Oligohydramnios or reduced amount of amniotic fluid volume is a commonly observed obstetric problem during third trimester of pregnancy. It accompanies a broad range of reproductive disorders including anomalies of fetus and functional disorders of mother, fetus and placenta. Reduced amniotic fluid volume is associated with adverse perinatal outcome. A prospective hospital based study of total 100 cases of oligohydramnios coming for delivery to Pravara Rural Hospital, Loni was undertaken over a period of two years from October 2007 to September 2009. The information regarding bio-social characteristics, maternal and perinatal outcome were collected and results were analyzed by using percentage and proportion. In the present study, the majority of the cases( 78%) were unbooked and belonged to the age group of 20-30 years and had associated maternal or fetal complications. Postdated pregnancy, pregnancy induced hypertension and fetal congenital anomalies were the commonest complications associated with oligohydramnios. Forty four percent cases were delivered by caesarean section. Overall perinatal mortality was 24%. Cases with severe oligohydramnios and anhydramnios were associated with intrapartum fetal heart rate abnormalities, (16%) low Apgar score and (8%) meconium aspiration syndrome. Every case of oligohydramnios needs careful evaluation, parental counseling and individualized decision regarding timing and mode of delivery. Continuous intrapartum fetal monitoring and good neonatal care support is essential for optimum perinatal outcome.

Abstract:-Trimetazidine (TMZ) is an effective and well tolerated anti-anginal drug that possesses protective properties against ischemia- induced heart injury. However it has a short coming of a shorter half-life. Hence, in the present investigation extended release pellets of Trimetazidine hydrochloride (TMZ) were prepared using ethyl cellulose polymers to achieve a prolonged therapeutic action by continuously releasing medication over an extended period of time after administration of a single dose. The sustained release formulations were optimized by employing suspension / solution layering technique. The drug release characteristics of all the formulations were evaluated by HPLC technique and stability studies were carried out for about three months at different temperature and humidity conditions.
