Abstract:- An attempt was made to focus on rural adolescents since majority of the Indian population lives in villages. We tried to observe male and female adolescents and their physical appearance in terms of height, weight, body mass index (BMI), life style factors such as intake of total proteins, total calories, their physical activities at school, time spent in reading, sleeping and watching television programs. This study was carried out over a period of four months on school children from the villages of Chikmagalur district of Karnataka state, India. There was no statistical significance between gender in 8th, 9th and 10th standards. Reading habits of the adolescents have significant increase as they grew older. As the walking hours of adolescents were increased, reading hours and exercises were decreased though not significantly. As age of the high school students was increased, sleeping hours were decreased; showing moderate inverse co-relation with statistical significance.

Abstract:- Objective: The present investigation was aimed to examine the antimicrobial activity of Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) crude extracts of Aloe barbadensis Miller (Aloe vera) gel against the selected bacterial and fungal pathogens of Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pnemoniae, Proteus mirabilis, Psedomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Aspergillus niger , Candida albicans and Penicillium sps. Methods: The bacteria and fungi were identified and confirmed by conventional microbiology techniques and the antimicrobial activity was carried out by standard disc diffusion method against the pathogens by using the crude DMSO extracts of A. vera gel. Results: The antibacterial and fungal activity has been observed in the DMSO gel extracts of A. vera against all the tested bacteria and fungi with varied activity. The maximum zone of inhibition 15mm for E. coli, 13 mm for P. mirabilis, 11mm for Proteus mirabilis and 10 mm for Pseudomonas aeruginosa of Gram Negative and 16 mm for Staphylococcus aureus of Gram Positive bacterial test organisms observed. Similar to antibacterial, the antifungal activity of the A. vera gel extracts also varied according to the concentration. The maximum zone of inhibition 13 mm for C. albicians, 10 mm for Penicillium sps were observed. The A. vera gel extracts were failed to show the zone of inhibition against the A. niger. Conclusion: It is hoped that this study would lead to the establishment of some compounds that could be used to formulate new and more potent antimicrobial drugs of natural origin.

Abstract:-Objective: To find out frequency and pattern of ABO and Rh blood group among voluntary donors. Material and Methods: Voluntary donors attending blood bank or blood donation camps organized by Medical College Jhalawar ,Rajasthan between April 2008 to March 2012 (4 years study). Total numbers of 4911 such donors were included in this study. The ABO and Rh grouping done, data were recorded on specially formed proforma, tabulated and analyzed. Results: The result shows ABO group pattern as O>B>A>AB. The same pattern seen in Rh positive male and females while in Rh negative females the pattern was B>O>A>AB. The O Negative blood group was 2.24% while AB negative was at lowest position (0.71%). Discussion and Conclusion: This study shows blood group O is more common in voluntary donors in this area(32.8%).These results are quite similar to the many other studies done at other parts of country. Everyone should have knowledge of their blood group. This will help to save life of patients when blood transfusion is an emergency.

Abstract:- Nattokinase is an enzyme found in Nattô, a popular Japanese cheese made from fermented soyabeans. This enzyme has been found to dissolve blood clots. Clots that form inside a blood vessel in the absence of a wound may restrict the blood flow and lead to heart attack or stroke. Nattokinase can diminish this risk. On the other hand, because of its powerful vasoconstrictor properties, and its effects on intracellular calcium, ET-1 has been implicated in the pathogenesis of hypertension, coronary vasospasm, and heart failure. A number of studies suggest a role for ET-1 in pulmonary hypertension, as well as in systemic hypertension. ET-1 has been shown to be released by the failing myocardium where it can contribute to cardiac calcium overload and hypertrophy. In this study, I propose that a combination of nattokinase enzyme and endothelin-1 receptor antagonist can ameliorate the cardiovascular ailments like the hypertension and cardiac failure.

Abstract:- Castleman's disease is a very rare disorder characterized by non-cancerous growths that may develop in the lymph node tissue at a single site or throughout the body. It tends to produce cytokines due to few B cells hyper proliferation. Although officially not considered a cancer, it is similar to lymphoma due to over growth of lymphoctes in this disease. We report a case of 40yr young lady with a right upper neck swelling which was cystic in consistency and on ultrasound scanning queried to be a branchial cyst threw a pathological surprise as castleman’s disease.
